Igland 4201 winch problem

Hi, I have the chance of the above winch but there is a problem with the brake not holding when under load.

Can anyone maybe shed some light on possible problem for me please.

ram that sets the break leaking?

pressure valve for the drum break not set correctly

Worn break band?

Clutch slipping (unlikely)

 

first 4 off the top of my head in order of likely hood assuming its an electro hydraulic winch.

 

unusually heavy pull by any chance.

the band needs adjusting, or the linkage is not returning to the correct position. the brake can be released in 2 ways firstly by pushing the lever up and shaping the band open, secondly when starting to pull as the clutch engages the band is disengaged. if the linkage is sitting slightly in the pull position the brake may slip. take the top off and have a look its only 2 bolts. I doubt its worn.

To be honest, I have not used it as I am looking at buying it and everything works as it should apart from if you are pulling up hill then put brake on it won't hold and the timber will start to move back down hill.

They guy has put new clutch shoes on and I don't know if it is electro hydraulic as I never inspected it.

My thought was to ask on here for some pointers on possible problems.
