we bought a little used one from MR Blair (SWB).

It certainly has its limitations.

with a bit of imagination with redirects, doubling up using pulleys etc to increase the pull its very capable.

Its good at what a tirfor isnt - mainly speed

but isnt as good as a tirfor for other things - for example a tirfor will pull, hold in place, then lower if required.

the petrol winch doesnt have this ability - (though thinking about it you could integrate a prussic and fair lead as a 'grab').

we had three guys using it to pull rhody up a cliff for a month and it performed well at this, loads were relatively low, but the muck on the rope meant heavy wear on the drum, the hook and even the small pulley at the front of the machine, but all parts are replaceable - also the rope had to replaced a couple of times under these conditions.

As I say it has its limitations, as with all kit nothing does everything, there expensive for what they are...... having said that I love it and look for an excuse to use it to make a job easier.
