Investment Appraisal

Hi, I'm thinking of getting something like a Boxer, but am struggling with a methodology for an investment appraisal. Given that it would be used on may of the jobs i would have anyway ( I don't anticipated it generating new work).

So my current plan is to assume it will save about an hours time on an average medium\large dismantle, I would then use this 'saved' hour as money earnt by the machine minus fuel, insurance servicing etc. However, by this method it doesn't look a great investment.

What am i missing? Also struggling with the same issue with a MEWP, especially as you can't put a price on energy saved during a days graft...

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

Mark

A boxer is a lot of money!

Loaders are great if you run 2 vehicles, if not your always going to have to do 2 runs or have a day to lift timber etc.

Now with the current demand for logs I don't see the need for removal of timber, get yourself some good firewood guys and they will carry it all out for you and take it away, organise nieghbours to help themselves too.

It will only make you money if it gets you to your next dismantle quicker, that's the cream money, tidying up and removal of wood is low earnings so I avoid as much as possible.

If you want to earn good money, but a micro chipper and take nothing away.

I agree, it is nice to have jobs were everything stays on site, but I don't have many of those. Its all about getting to the next job quicker, or shorter days and better quality of life etc.

Boxers are expensive, but they seem to do a lot - probably not the best tool for any particular task, but good enough for lots of tasks.

Ha ha, Stephen. That's how I ended up with garage full of motorbikes! Good shout, but big bucks to spend in my business early days.

Cheers
