Artic load of softwood - £1200

Hi guys,

 

We have never had to buy firewood. We have been very lucky and been able to source from local estate (dead and windblown with permission). That is unfortunately running out and in the next year we will have to purchase our wood.

 

Does £1200 for an artic load (softwood) delivered sound a fare price in the central belt of Scotland? (48 per tonne approx)

Last load i had in to the yard (Lancashire) i paid very much the same price as that,that was delivered from Cumbria so id say it,s about right

I would say its pretty expensive, last load I bought was £36 a ton delivered! Thats in the highlands!

How much wood are you needing? do you have the space for all that? how much do you burn a year? and where abouts are you?

Is that including vat at 20 percent. I would expect to pay 36 to 40 quid plus vat in lincolnshire. I would want a weigh ticket aswell.

I need to check if that includes VAT.

 

We do have the room, that is not really a problem. We can store about a years worth inside and then the rest remains outside till it is split. We normally burn about 15 - 20 cube a year. It heats non commercial greenhouses.

 

We are just outside Kilmarnock.

 

Now we are going to run out in 2015 season, we are just trying to work out if it better to convert to electricity or buy in wood.

We are at 20 percent because we sell it on. 1200 hundred quid with 5 percent included would be to much.

It would be 5% if just being used for domestic consumption.

 

Seems like far too much really. I was quoted in October for pulp wood by Scottish Woodlands at £28 a tonne roadside. Haulage is usually less than £10.

Thanks Big J. Excuse my ignorance, I gather pulp wood is just lower grade wood? Ideal for fire wood.

 

I will contact Scottish Woodland and see if they can give me a quote.

 

My first quote was 48 a tonne delivered but the timber has been felled for over a year so lower moisture content. If buying freshly felled for say (28+10 for delivery).....by volume, would it not be comparable?

 

Do people offer quotes by volume rather than weight?
