Hi what's the best replacement barrel & piston for a 254xp. Bought a saw with a new one fitted in November & the dealer said they've never had one go down but never said what make it was.

Try to clean the cylinder by chemically removing the aluminium transfer - don't get clever and use a hone - you may well bugger it up. A soft hone or light hone can be used for a very short while to break the glaze and no more or just use light grit emery paper.

Pistons - I don't think Meteor do them and believe Golf is the best aftermarket one you can get - use the OEM circlips in it though.

OEM is of course best, but it doesn't really matter unless you first find and fix the reason that the first two ones failed.

It doesn't "just happen", there always is a specific reason!

Streight gas, bad gas (usually old mix or wrong/too little oil), lean carb setting and air leak are the most common ones.....

I too have the same problem with my 254xp, replacement pot n piston lean seized I think, did work ok for 5 months after I bought it. It's off to Spud when I can find a box big enough, like the cup cake shipping idea though.
