i'll be getting the rest of the tree at some point but i don't know if it's been cut up in to small bits like these or if it's still in decent chunks. i hope the latter as i'd like to get more of something that looks like a plank longer than 18"...

ok dan its all been cut now and even though i lost one bit cause of an old branch that created a huge void that explained why that block was lighter there is plenty of good boards cut from the rest...

 

in total there is 2.75ft3.

 

with any luck i'll get some more soon

brown oak is not a specific species but instead it's been infected by the beefsteak fungus (Fistulina hepatica) which over a period of time turns the wood brown.

 

i've only ever heard it applied to english oak (quercus robur) but i'm sure that it will live on others too
