I would imagine its of the Lycoperdon genus

 

Do you have a shot in site on the Ivy?

 

 

 

Lycoperdons can be found on healthy wood, but probably associated with dysfunctional/dead tissue underneath.

 

Like here on London plane

what tree species is the ivy is growing on?

 

Is it dysfunctional?

 

My guess is that the tree has a seem of dysfunction, which is where the saprophytic Lycoperdon mycelium is hosting within the dysfunctional volume of the tree stem, and that the mycelium has grown in to a tear/fracture of the the back of the ivy stem & looks like it's coming out of what appears to be sound functional Ivy.
