Red hot spruce...

Running out of seasoned logs ,I took on some "dry" birch,sweet chestnut,and spruce.

 

The birch is dry enough,but the spruce ,when struck with a pick,spurted sap.

Thinking this would never dry in time for this season,I only split three cubes or so and put in my polytunnel.

 

It has been there for about five days ,so I tried some tonight on my stove,thinking it would probably kill the fire.It went red hot and burned really well.

I just went out there and got some more and whilest out,checked it for moisture..27 to 35 ,with one still at 45.

At this rate,I shall be able to sell by the end of Feb if I need to..

spruce ive always found is nice the sweet chestnut will take more drying

I had about 18 tonne of sweet chestnut in the summer .I like it,have had no complaints,even the few with open fires who have used it.

I would think it would go well with the spruce ?

yes sounds good . all wood is good take what you can get there will be no hardwood or softwood about in twelve months when the biomass to power stations step up..buy what you can get
