Help Id a Tree

Hi All,

I heat my home with a stove and gather and process all my own wood.

I have recently helped some friends remove a fallen and rotting tree from their field.

They thought it was oak, which could not be further from the truth.

The tree had been blow down snapping a few feet off the ground, it had regrown as if it had been coppiced. I cannot describe what shapeit should have been.

The main trunk had brown thick fissured bark, the newer growth had green shiny smooth bark.

The wood is very light in colour only slightly of white, it is not dense. It is easily snapped and the main truck splinters.

There were no leaves to see.

Does any one know what it might have been.

Thank you,:001_smile:

William

Definitely crack willow, especially if you snap one of the live twigs and it's quite stringy.

Just as a note, crack willow will regrow from the tiniest piece of wood, so if you chip it, don't get it on wet ground
