two stroke soaked Rope!

Rock climber here too. The above is a wise decision, as the rope might look fine but within could be lethally damaged.

 

Have just read above article and it states no damage can be caused by soaking a rope in petrol. However, I also note he mentions standing on a rope does not weaken it. One could view this, as it being ok to stand on a climbing rope. Now my understanding has always been, that it's bad practice to stand on ropes, as gritty particles can be ground into the rope, which in turn abrades said rope. It's well being factual but if that isn't tempered by practicality...

 

Having said that, nylon is a petroleum based polyamide. But I still wouldn't be happy trusting my life or the life if others to a rope I had any doubts about.
