Good stuff Big Chris.

General rule of thumb is volume of house multiplied by 40 gives heat loss in watts for an okish insulated house. Most of our house is 1920s built with the new bits being well insulated so overall okish. Log boilers are sized according to fuel chamber size and you'll find a 30kw boiler will have the same chamber size and indeed the same price tag as a 50kw boiler, just with different programming of the software. In some, not all cases. Also we'll have some underground pipe work which will have a small heat loss.

Good to hear the Vigas is going well. Do you have an accumulator tank? Also how often do you find you fill it during the winter and where are you?

Great to hear love for the biomass.

hi st135r

Not got acumalator tank no one had any ideas of this boiler in 2004 all plumbers thought I was mad they just wanted to fit gas or oil combi. We had a new build of timber frame and extra insulation etc.At moment fire it once a day about 4 pm 1 load of wood heating on all evening switch boiler off about 10 pm and heating.Loads of hot water all night and day and I have 3 daughters always in the shower. If it gets realy cold will fire it in morning as well and heating all day.Log boiler obvious choice as been doing this since 1995.

One of my customers has a barn of place and has 75kw log boiler and 2 2500 litre tanks

He uses about 40 cube of softwood about £2000 from me instead of £10000 in oil also solar to heat water in summer. Hope this helps Chris.
