Hi all, bought a 150 about 6 months ago,

And im amazed its only now due for a little honing, i have a pack of 1/8 files which i was sold to use but was told there are no file guides for this saw :confused1:

So, as the dealer offered to to prepare the saw for collection i do not know the chain specs, ie file angles, pitch etc

Also, does anyone know if there are now guides available ?

Much appreciated

Ive got one on a 10"bar and use my stihl file guide. To get the 30degree angle and itll only need one possibly two strokes on each tooth.

You can get a oregon file guide from chainsawbars.co.uk

Or ask Rob d on here who own the site if hes got any other guides that would fit the 4mm file

File guides are over rated IMO.

Have a look at a sharp cutter on another chain the same size or even another chainsaw. Learn how the cutter should look and the relationship to the file angles. The look at the distance between the depth gauge and top of the cutter. Try and match the gaps on the chain you are sharpening.

I hope you can understand the above... it makes sense in my head.

The MS 150 uses a 1/4" chain and needs to be sharpened with a 3.2 mm file (1/8"), not a 4mm file.

But STIHL does make a file guide for it, see "Stihl file holder and file 3.2mm" Products for the category: File handle and guide

File it using a 30° top plate angle, holding the file at 90° to the bar.
