MS260 - which replacement tank housing?

Hi folks - after a little accident with my saw today I'm the market for a replacement tank housing for it :blushing:

It has a part number on the bottom - 1121 791 1003, but a search of the parts catalogue suggests that 1121 350 0829 is actually the correct number.

So I've seen this on eBay - STIHL MS 240 / 260 REAR HANDLE / FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY NEW | eBay

Do you think this will do the job? Anywhere else worth looking for spares?

Thanks in advance.

At that price it's cheap enough to try

I could be wrong but the Stihl part number is probably for the bare tank only that will be a pattern part and looks like complete assembly with tank vent pipes etc so worth a try

Have just ordered one of eBay for my 660 as the stihl part number was bare plastic casing only at £70 + vat whereas complete assembly inc postage was only about £40 for pattern part just need to wait for it to arrive now

Would your little accident have been like the one my 660 had that where a tree ended up on it and won the fight

Perhaps! :001_cool: Its mad up here today. Managed 3 ranger loads of firewood scrumping before I bit off more than I could chew with a large beech limb.

Just need to get it back up and running as there is still plenty of 'clearing up' to do!

It will be a Chinese part bought in large quantity by an UK seller, sometimes cheaper to buy off the Chinese guy on ebay and have it shipped from china. I suppose plastic parts should be ok, any other parts i would be wary of. I'm considering buying a Chinese crank for a MS361 as i cant find a good used one anywhere and i've had the saw in bits for a year.

0834 is identified in the 2012 parts catalogue here http://www.lsengineers.co.uk/media/pdfs/stihl/MS260.pdf as the correct number

0829 is identified in an earlier 2009 parts catalogue here http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2061856/ms260-ms260c-pl-pdf-july-12-2010-12-24-pm-508k?da=y

So it's not clear which is the correct one, but as my saw is pre 2012, my money is still on 0829 - fingers crossed!
