Christmas Trees

I've just come back from the Black Isle, where I do some christmas tree work in November. They sold over 500.000 trees this season, with about 15-20% growth in numbers each year....

A lot of the "art" is in pruning, spraying against aphids, leader selection/ retarding/ encouragement and finally quality selection and marketing.

The rest of the operation is not simple, but does not require much specialist knowledge.

Largest pots where 90 ltrs with tree size of 15 -20 ft. Used to bury pot in IBC container for use at schools and churches. Needed forklift on tractor to move IBC around but at least it did not blow over in the wind. Beyond 90 ltrs planted out to form timber plantation.

Just realised this sounds like we only did big trees but we did everything from table top trees in 1 ltr pots to normal 4-8ft trees in 10-15 ltr pots upto the big trees in 90 ltr pots.
