hi

Im not too sure if this is the right place for this question but has anyone seen this on ash trunks before? perfectly normal or something sinister? Sorry I have no pics at the moment but the trees on soggy ground, there is a spring surfacing in this garden, in sunny suburban Birmingham.

does that make the wood brittle? Its approx 35 ft heigh, multi stem leaders from about 5ft. The base at 5ft is approx .75cm to .90cm

Ash is brittle enough anyway!

I don't think it is as big a deal as in other species like larch and beech, it seems to only affect the leaves rather than the timber.

There are many on here with much greater knowledge of it than me, so I may be corrected shortly!
