Recently UKTC was host to a thread....Most replies were saying dogs vomit slime mould....

It is possible that the Fuligo sepatica is on organic litter or similar in the fork of the beech...or has been suggested , localised dysfunction....!I guess Im saying that the fungi can be quite deceiving in their characteristics and always seem to keep you guessing.....

Have you tried asking folk who may have witnessed the limb failure 4 years ago...they might remember some detail of the event as it is the kind of thing people remember for years....The failed limb is long gone I assume but would likely hold the key to your query....(Not much help I guess...sorry mate.)

Assuming it's some kind of saprophyte and given the previous failures, I'd reason that it's a symptom of decline, rather than the cause.

The only parasitic orangey coloured bracket / lump I can think of is Laetiporus - I've not seen these in real life, but they're seasonal and I'm guessing there wouldn't be much left to identify at this time of year, certainly nothing that's orangey? I'd appreciate any comments from anyone who's familiar with Laetiporus.:001_smile:
