I have been asked to spray for aphids on a 4m high by 20m long leylandii hedge! We've got a backpack sprayer and PA1 and PA6.

Any one done it, or have any info on what to use and rates?

Try Bandu at 70ml per 100litres of water its a broad based pyrethroid insecticide which will give good control to aphids. Its a very strong insecticide so don't add any more than this rate.

Do a follow up spray 14-21 days after the first application.

The good benefits are that its rain fast within an hour the only problem is its quiet expensive.

Hope that helps :-)

ive used Aphux before and that worked well, again repeat spray after 2 wks ish, i was advised to spray with a fungicide at the same time to reduce likelyhood of fungi attaching damaged caused by aphids, i used octave.

i was told also that i should spray again the next spring as you are very unlikely to cure problem just reduce incidence, the thuja hedge is now a lovely green not brown!

i just went up and down a ladder a lot with the sprayer on my back not fun, but got to be done

Sounds like hard work and not good balancing on a ladder with a moving mass on your back.

Easier and safer to get 5m of hose and fit it in the system between the trigger and the jet and tape it onto a pole or whatever and stand on the ground and do it. :001_cool:

Or tell 'em its 'Health and Safety, mate' and do it out of a mewp, and charge plenty. :sneaky2:
