I own some woods in the middle of the Sussex countryside, but being bordered by a B road causes endless problems including vandalism, fly-tipping & wholesale cutting & theft of trees.

.

The concept of owning woods in a town sounds like a complete & utter nightmare.

B2- Doesnt sound as if the solution was of particularly disproportionate effort or expense from this frankly!

The point is that with a public footpath on site he won't be able to put up fences and hedges.

No, no, and no! I was involved in countryside management for enough years, and woodland - particularly urban fringe woodland - was always the biggest headache and drain on resources. Apart from the annual tree safety surveys, root monitoring , path maintenance etc etc... to try and reduce the numbers of ambulance chasers, you will have all the problems outlined previously - dogs, vandals, theft, litter, etc. Its hard enough to look after with a full time Ranger, let alone as a hobby. Find a nice rural wood with no, or limited, rights of way and then you can pootle about til yer hearts content.:thumbup1:
