I'm amateur at this and wondering what this is;

 

Also dismantling a dying sycamore today with purple mushrooms on the dead wood in the crown, got no pictures of them but there was a red colour in the stem;

Might be a stupid question but i haven't noticed it before and if I don't ask I won't learn. Thanks in advance

Look like an Armillaria species to me.

 

Have you got any shots of they gills and stem?

armillaria mellea on the first, your purple fungi on the acer is probably Chondrostereum purpureum unless you meant the purple reaction zones which have failed once already.
