i have this honda mower that is fairly old, and recently on long grass the blade clutch seems to be slipping?? the cable is at full tightness, is there an easy way to check the clutch??

and is it easy to fix??

'tis easy. Take off the blade then do the central bolt. The clutch assembly then slips off the shaft.

 

It should be a 'cone' clutch. The lining sits inside the top 'cup' and wears away. Have a look and replace the worn items. Post pics if in doubt.

i have tried to undo the centre nut but its just free spinning? do i have to get to the back of it and hold?

heres a photo of where iam at with it.

managed to undo the bolt and got all the clutch stuff off. not sure what its meant to look like but here are a few shots of it.

yep thats worn out. need a new one.

 

the clutch part is the bit that is still on there. the four wear plates are worn out. that bit pulls of as it has the woddruff key. thats the bit you need.

hahaha. go give it a good yank.

 

you may need a puller. may just come off with a good hit with a wooden mallet. sometimes they fall off others can be a right pita.
