They tend to stand alert with the abdomen arched up waiting for trouble. They don't initiate an attack - more of a counter-puncher.

When two of them meet, they usually just scuttle over each other and head for cover.

When you pick one up, you can feel that they're strong - and they really can nip.

Spiders are very good at sizing other things up according to the twangs on their web or the first touch at close range.

I reckon any native spider would offer to hold the woodlouse's coat in a fight with 'Ned'. :scared1:
