Fungus Ident help please

Good afternoon y'all, I hope you are all well and cherishing the onset of Autumn, then Winter mmmm cold hands!!!

 

Could any one of you decent types out there help me ident this little fella?

 

Found at the base of a live birch, with a sparse crown. There is Sulphur tuft nearby, but I'm pretty sure this isn't it.

Thanks David. Any impact on tree health? The "host" tree does seem to have less vigour than the other trees in the row.

 

If they are C. micaceus

they're wholly saprophytic and feeding on dysfunctyional roots/root crown

 

 

The primary reason for decline in health is from another source

 

worth having a probe in the soil for the rhizomorphs of Armillaria
