I've a 2101 which is pretty much the same saw......

Buy it mine is a beast

 

Pretty much, yes - but the 298 had a smaller starter that often failed (was replaced by 2100/2101 ones), and is lacking the manual oiler.

Any photos of the 298?

 

May be worth taking off the exhaust for a quick look at the cylinder and piston.

 

Old big Huskys are great.

I have a 2101XP - good saw for milling :thumbup:

It's so cheap I've bought it just for ringing up big stuff at the yard.

 

Looking at ms660's as main big saw :)

 

Ill upload some pics of the 298 when I get a sec
