Off up there in a couple of weeks for an ancient tree mgt training day. last time i was there was for a job interview for snr ranger where dr helen read took me round and I asked her if decisions on vt mgt were made on site or by specialists. few weeks later i noticed in the Ancient and other Veteran Trees book that her name appeared rather prominently. I facepalmed pretty hard.

unlucky on the senior ranger post, there must of been a strong applicants list.

 

Helen is the management arm of all things regarding the ecology of the site, she is very ably assisted by Jez Young (orange hi viz) who through 20+ years of experience, runs the practical aspect of the management. A very knowledgeable chap, he knows an awful lot about cutting lapsed pollards

it never ceases to amaze me how often the mycorrhizal species will pop up in the most urban of environments.

Not really my bag tbh, like to let the little fung things do their business

Not that I haven't tried a few here and there.

 

Also, worth being cautious with the species as a few of the Boletes are poisonous.

Only if they turn blue generally they're safe, have tried slippery jack, larch bolete, red and yellow cracking, and the orange birch ones, only take a couple though, but they're all very tasty! If you leave some, more grow I found

not mycorrhizal, more a saprophytic ring this time.

 

here amongst azaleas and numbering in their hundreds.

The ring was perhaps 6/7 meters across.

 

 

I'm thinking they are clouded funnels Clitocybe nebularis
