Has that ethos been sustained within that arb dept 9 years on?

Any shots of the managed habitat across the site?

I hope it has - my boss from back then died last January and I went up for the funeral. Chatting to former colleagues, it all sounded very positive. I think in some ways I was lucky to come in at a time when change was clearyl needed, and people were highly receptive to new ideas. The policiticians loved it, and general public were even supportive from time to time

Before I left I had restructure the whole department and when appointing managers I made certain criteria essential (other than the obvious arb quals/experience) to ensure that ecological management lived on. Even little things like making the head of arb sit next to the head of countryside management in the office probably helped

Here's a Beech which copped it and was reduced to Monolith back in Dec 04.

Last shot is from Oct 08.

Hadn't tried the BPS at this stage Stevie :sneaky2:

Did you have any luck with the bat box (i assume) set in the tree like that?

I've been looking into making natural boxes while veterinising trees and wondered how they would do.

No bats as far as we're aware, but tits used the cavity.

I have read that this type of created habitat does get used by bats

The tree sits within falling distance to a cycle track, pathway and busy road.

Got the team to drop it in height to a standing deadwood monolith.
