Hi,

Has anyone seen Grifola fondosa 3-4 metres up a native oak tree? I havent but was wondering if this can occur?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Nope, Laetiporus 'YES'...but all manner of unusual things relating to trees n fungi seem to be happening these days.

Doubtless Mr Humphries ro Mr Croft will be along shortly to give you something much more useful so I'll adopt a "watching brief."

Cheers..

Paul

Not personally seen Grifola at the heights you asking about Steve, but I have witnessed it fruiting off the floor.

So perhaps it is possible.

As Paul has elluded to, fung do the most unexpected of things. I have come across species that are written down in text as basal decayers (eg Inonotus dryadeus) at 3/4 meters up a trunk.

nice image david.

no reason why it cant reach heights from basal colonisation providing A) it is a good combatant, or B) there is noone else home to combat for territory.

The internal battle field of woody structures, I wish I could shrink down for a day and walk down the vessels!

it turned out to be an hold chicken of the wood fungus (Laetiporus sulphurous).

Thanks for everyones input.

David, sorry if i have missed something but in the images you have attached I assume it's Grifola?

thanks steve
