STIHL MS211 questions

Hi newbie, joined when I saw this post last evening. I have been looking for a 211c cylinder and piston as previous saw owner thought it would be ok to run a tank of petrol only just the once :) , so cheap saw... I was horrified by stihl price and cant find an aftermarket. Is that direct straight swap no hassles etc to use a 230/250 cylinder and pistion, there is a stihl one on ebay for 20 quid... Regards Andy

Check the first 4 numbers of the product item code, if they are the same, it fits, for example, an ms261 is 1141 200 0080, the ms271 and 291 also start with 1141 as they share the same crankcase

Thanks, it just sold, damm item number 261275534964 . He had them all listed as 40mm but i thought 250 was 42.5mm. The guy who stripped the saw said I need a replacement piston and barrel which ive taken as cylinder and piston? Any experience of aftermarket parts for 210 /230. My chap said 20 quid to fit. Regards Andy

£20 to fit aint bad as its a clamshell motor, does he know that?

The 250 is 42mm and later ones are 42.5 however you will struggle with compression as the crank is 4mm longer in the 250.

If you can save the cylinder which you can 75% of the time if its been straight gassed you can get a piston here...

S/H cylinder here

Stihl MS211 Cylinder and top crank case

Seeing as the stihl type number isn't the same as the 210-250 range I cant verify what will definetly fit so may be safer to do a direct swap like for like. With these new small saws it can take a while before aftermarket parts hit the market.

Certainly the 170 and 210 cylinders are different so not interchangeable

Thanks guys Ill keep on looking..... I ll have a word with him and see if the cylinder is ok. He worked in the stihl shop so should know but ill mention it. Thanks for links. Looks about 70 quid to fix so not too bad if its works ok, think it will be good saw for small stuff and maybe carving. Using a 180 to carve atm which is great saw as well.
