The machine`s that are on hire ie chipper,truck and other hand tools dont have to be separately itemised just list them with a total . We just write it down as a total for labour and a separate total for equipment/machine hire. if your accounts package wont allow a split total just send in two separate invoices.

I had a 4 month headache with this, Hmrc are far from helpful if not obstructive.

We wanted to go Gross contractor to avoid having 20% deducted which would kill the job. It was huge ball ache as we had mucked up on under paying a tax bill by £12 once so where deemed as in trustworthy by Hmrc

 

If your ever likely to work for a construction company I'd advise you to sort out your cis status now instead of having to deal with hmrcs disgusting level of incompetence standing in the way of receiving your pennies.
