Hello, i am new on here. Ive tried everything to fix my 044 but can't think of anything else so thort i would join up and ask. Its the 044 with screw filler caps. It runs for 1min and rev and cuts really good, then i splutters and dies, then you can't start it again, its a real pain on jobs. I split it down and checked all the seals and compression tested the casing to check for leaks and cracks. Now ive been told the carb is bugged. Its the welbro with the small dog leg pipe at the bottom. I had a look on the internet and rang places up and the carb seems to be a discotinued part and the new zama carb looks like it wont fit. Will it?? I could really do with some help, if anyone knows where i could get a 044 welbro carb or if someone has replaced theres with a zama or other make carb let me know which and how. Thank you for your time.

Sure its not coil or a faulty tank vent?

Agree on that one, classic symptoms, thing to do is to only fill the tank half full, start the saw and then tip it on its side and loosen up the fuel cap and see if that improves matters, if it does then it is the tank vent.

Almost all the carbs I have are in serviceable condition and fixable, many just need a damn good clean so even if it isn't the tank vent, it isn't the end of the world!

Yeah sounds a bit tank breather like.

On the 044 its the little bit of tube to the left of the carb that's just bent in a u with a spring and little brass screw in the end.

If you kept the saw below 1/2 full on fuel you could prob just pull the tube off and just try the saw to see if it fixes it provided you don't put the saw on its side or the way spud suggests.

The dog leg tube is what pushes into the impulse line which provides the vacuum for the carb to work.

Before getting a new carb I would fit a new fuel line, filter and the impulse tube, the fuel line may have gone soft also which will cause a similar problem as it collapses whilst running a short while.

If it runs for a minute its more likely breather or fuel line than carb.

The carbs are interchangeable on 044 and ms440 models ;-)
