Hi everyone! thinking about going self employed but Im a bit unsure on what to charge as my day rate?

Im 25 years old and i have ---Cs30,31,38 soon to be 39 too

Level 3 btec in forestry and arboricilture cscs card

Nptc competencey card for flail, rotary mowers, hedge cutters/ brush cutters.

Full driving licence.

Ive been a landscape gardener on the books for 4 years almost now so have chainsaw, chipper experience but no actual groundy experience.

Boss at the moment is ok with me going self employed and I'm still able to have work off him. so few days here and there with different tree surgeons to start would be ideal, just need to build up the contacts up.

You have got loads in the locker bud . Go for it what ever . Don't make the mistake of working for someone else all yer life and end up just getting by . I am 60 years old and , ok I don't owe any one anything and I own my house but I could have done better had I gopne for it when there was nothing else to worrie about !!!!!!

Thanks for the wise word stubby. Do have a few worrys, my 2 year old daughter and rent, bills etc. it's possibly not having a constant income that worrys me, but my current boss says I can still do regular work for him so I think I may be alright.

I just need to go for it really.

If your going self employed get your name out there. It may take a while for it to pick up, but within a while you'll be wondering what a day off felt like.....

trees, waves and cakes!!:-)

There you go ! :001_smile:

Don't forget to set up your direct debit National insurance payments. T'internet will guide you there.

Set up another DD for £20 per month into a savings account and don't go near it. You will be very happy when you really need it.

After that you'll be fine as you are 25 with the rest of your life ahead of you! Good luck!

Could you 2-3days with ur current boss then the rest of the week to yourself as a trail?

Yeah I think that's what I'm intending you to do dan, then I got something to fall back on. There's a lot of tree surgeons round my area(Norfolk) and iv phoned round and pretty much all of em use self employed workers, and at the time I phoned them they said they could give me days here & there.
