I think it will, Dean. When I lay hedges, I often lay a stem into a hole I've dug, to fill a gap. I cut a bit of bark off where it touches the ground and back fill the hole. I don't often get to check whether it worked or not, but I've come across branches that have touched the ground and struck out roots where they touch the soil.

We used to close gateways that were no longer required by layering from each side as a layered branch grew better on the compacted roadway.

Roots strike easier if you score the bark at the point where the branch is pinned to the ground.

There`s a considerable amount for me to do on the Hazel in a couple of woods i have access too. But whilst the Hinds are still in season i`m afraid i just cant touch the two venue`s.

At the end of this Month i think it would cause too much disturbance to the nesting birds so it looks like September. A month into the stag season
