Wow, some fantastic answers here, made me laugh out loud! Yes it is a charity type of thing I'm considering. Still need to look into it before it possibly becomes a reality though. No it's not for justins show, although I may pop along to check setups.

Never seen or used srt, but it does appeal and could be a good excuse to buy a hitch hiker (in my view following the various threads it looks better than the wrench). How about pantins and other fancy ascenders? How easy are they to get on/off the rope? Ideally some system to utilise both legs is preferred.

Cheers all. .

I didn't mention this because you mentioned not wanting to buy more gear, but this set-up will do what you are asking for very well.

Pantin, Croll with foot loop, wire gate Revolver and a length of bungee cord with a small clip on both ends. It is fast on and off and uses just your legs so your arms are free to use as needed.

That does look ideal, but the croll doesnt work up to 13mm, so petzls website says; Which would mean a new rope when my xtc plus has hardly been used. What other options are available that would work on 13mm rope?

Cheers

FR Jones forestry show in Kent end of July up and down 50 feet up to 20 times have a look.

I was going to go Saturday and check it out, but I have to work now. Which reminds me I must cancel my place on the talks...

Pantin, hand ascender and tape sling attached to the hand ascender for your other foot. Then all you need is a wrench or other friction device to defend. A fig 8 will do but will be a P.I.T.A to take on and off all the time as it's difficult too ascend with one attached.

The old Croll, which is what I am using works great on 13 mm line. I think it was a real mistake for Petzl to change this on the new one.

This one should work fine though.
