Scratch my previous guess, based on the history now provided and additional pictures.

 

Beech appears to be highly susceptible to developers!

 

It looks to me that the levels have been raised in the root zone. Probably compacted by site traffic before hand.

 

Do you know who the developers were? Is this in Aberdeen?
