Very interesting work, but strikes me (with respect to the authors) that a lack of mature specimens (of DED resistant stock) to study, must be a significant hinderence to getting a balanced long term view on the ecological impacts?

 

Which they kind of suggest in the paper.

 

I guess science needs the early studies to build on and reference in the future.

amazing I was up near Huntingdon last w.e and could not believe the Elm there on the side of the road , had to take a second look to make sure it was, mature elm lining the sides of road , very good to see, although I am aware of the nursery man and his clone I had not realised there was Elm left alive quite as good as this, I thought you have to go to Scotland to see it, slight detour of thread my apologies cheers j

As always, any study will have to limit itself. Valid point that i'm sure will be covered in future studies...
