Leaky tree stump

Carved this last week and the customer sent this pic today.

The tree had a rot pocket that spewed out stagnant water when I cut through it at the top but could not find a seem lower down.

I've been today and it does seem a lot drier, drilled a few holes near base to see if I could lance the suspected trapped water but no luck.

Could it just be what the wood is holding being released?

Customer is concerned and I'm a little flummoxed as I've not come across this before.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated, thanks.
