Changing from Military Life/Personal Accident to Arborist Life/Personal Accident.

I've come across a bit of a grey spot, wondering if anyone has been in this situation before.

 

Officially im still employed by the MoD for another two months, however im no longer obliged to actually be at work. As far as they are concerned I am now on leave for the purpose of re-training and re-settlement.

 

During this time I can work for others as long as im not paid, which I plan on doing, along with my training at TKF.

 

The problem is I cant start a life/accident/income policy for being an arborist as one of the questions on the check list is 'are you in the military', which of course technically I still am. However I don't think my current policy would cover me for working as an arborist, or doing anything outside the military for example, as its a policy for serving military personnel.

 

Basically its just a giant cluster ****. I've got some insurance companies looking into it for me, but any advice would be appreciated.

Could they not bring forward your leaving date but still pay you? I was in a similar boat when I was made redundant and had three months gardening leave. I wanted to go self employed and start work asap so asked my employers to bring my end date forward which they did and I still got the full pay I was due.

You could ask for early release but to be honest you don't need to. You could tell the insurance company you are not in the service any more. That question is because you could be deployed to a toilet! As your on gardening leave a short explanation to the insurance company should be enough.
