PTS Training

Hi All,

 

Could anyone advise me with regards PTS training. I have just left the forces and have CS 31, 32, 34, 35, 38, 39, 48 as well as a LANTRA award in woodchipper use and maint. I also have my IRATA level 1 qual and was wondering if it is worth trying to get a PTS certificate for trackside work. Would this make me more employable or is it worth getting stated with a company first?. If so do you require a land based company to sponsor you prior to starting the course.

You need to be sponsored first by a company who works on rail , you also have to have done a medical and drugs and alcohol test. Where abouts are you based as we are looking for more rail staff

Thanks for the info. I'm currently based in Co Durham but would be willing to travel. Do you need the drugs and alcohol test before you start the course?.

Normally the firm that intends to sponsor you will book you for the medical and D&A. Then you will be sent for the initial PTS course, assuming you pass. Once you get PTS try to avoid letting it expire as , like First Aid at Work, the refresher is shorter (2 days for pts) than the initial or retake..

 

I wouldn't advocate paying for any of this as you may not subsequently get sponsored. Sponsorship is an expensive process for the employer.

 

Once sponsored you can expect to be randomly D&A tested within 5 years or following an "incident".

I did mine back in feb the course provider arranged sponsorship for me and I arranged the medical and D&A test so it can be done. Unfortunately the work I was told I would get never appeared so it now seems a waste of money good luck and hope it works out for you
