fungi id aa book

Recommended Posts

Fungi on Trees – An Arborists’ Field Guide- I found this one on AA web-site.

It says it's full of photos to make it easy to recognize different fungi. Does anybody here have one, is it worth buying?

I need an entry level sort of fungi id book to start. If not this one, any other suggestions?

cheers

Peter

It is very good Pete & focuses on the 25 or so principal decay fungi.

As an alternative have you thought about the Arbtalk fungi app?

there are a lot more species in there and hundreds of photos and also a tree species host association to help narrow down an I'd :thumbup1:

& the photos are ever so slightly better in the app than the guide, in my humble opinion of course

I imagine the p&d guide is also good, but I haven't been able to get it off Nick for long enough to read through it :001_rolleyes::lol:

Could do with a couple of pages of tree species & their specific p&d association perhaps.

Maybe something to consider for a next edition.

Oh and some better Armillaria shots

It is a start, as for the photography I thought the standard was pretty good?

Ever thought about publishing something yourself?

Just jesting Tony,

Fine images in the new guide :thumbup1:

The guys in the team are just ribbing me over my one shot in the p&d guide :001_rolleyes::biggrin:

Guy used one of my Armillaria shots.

It's interesting reflecting on images and experience.

The AA contacted me not long before printing the new p&d guide for a few images they were short of.

I didn't have the ones they were after (things like goat willow emergence holes)

With p&d its pretty dependent on your specific location and travels as opposed to fungi where they're much more blanket dispersed.

Steve and I have talked about a p&d app at some point.
