I've looked at a job to fell a 2 acres of larch and to replant it and just wondered what some of you would roughly charge to replant with larch, it would include stakes, gaurds, trees and labour, cheers.

Any ground prep? If not does it need screefed? Does included mean that you need to supply plants etc or they are supplied? If we need to supply what specs? Do they really need staked and guarded?

All the ground prep not included as ive already priced that but they want me to plant the trees aswell .The price incudes supplying plants, the trees there are japanese larch (clean) at the mo, they would have to be gaurded as there is no deer fencing

So, site will be mounded? c. 3000 stems per ha? You say its not deer fenced, so presumably its deer browsing your worried about, therefore minimum of 1.2m tree guards?

I wouldn't recommend planting conifers in tubes, so presumably net guards of some sort?

Trees to be 20/40s, 40/60s, 60/90s? Bare root I assume?

i'd be more worried with Phytopthora ramorum than deer, especially with Jap larch.

:dito:

Is this on the restocking requirements of the felling license as I didnt think larch monoculture plant was being permitted

Re the costing, the biggest scare is going to be gaurding and on an area that size, very expensive for guards and not really ecomonic to fence, could you not use the post harvesting brash to create a dead hedge round the site so that once that rots down the trees will be above deer height in terms of terminal bud damage
