Moving BT lines

Unfortunately this job involves a crane and 7 or 8 lines to diffferent owners so doing it on the side is not really an option. I have done it myself before but want to do it the right way as it's quite high profile.. Not sure I will if it's going to be £100 a line however.. Not sure how the offices and old peoples home are going to respond either... Hmmm are these big jobs worth the bother?

BT REALLY PISS ME OFF! To get a quote for the line removal it's

"£85 for site visit and then £55 per man per hour or part hour which would be chrageable whether the work went ahead or not"

Then they seem to want the engineer to sit there for the day watching at £55 an hour!

Does any one know if you can employ your own phone engineer/sparky to come out and take the lines down? That's got to be cheaper then the £500 odd quid a day they want!

Then again I could just wipe out the lines and let them fix the mess!

weve got a job coming up that involves dropping lines, row of large leylandi to come down, street lighting cable one side BT the other side, street lighting cable is owned by local council but they say they havent got the equipment to lower them, BT quoted us the same 85quid callout and 55 quid per hour but when we explained that we dont need the engineer to sit there, that we just wanted them lowered then come back after job is done they quoted 390 to lower and another 390 quid toput back up, customer didnt want to pay this so yet another site meeting with power company solved the problem, they said they would lower the councils lighting cable, but after all the hassle of site meetings and phone calls i think next time we,ll leave it to the customer.

bt split into 2 companies bt retail & bt openreach openreach own the lines, all of their work is invoiceable and need booking weeks in advance however you clients telephone provider posibly bt retail but could be virgin etc can place orders for emergency works & fault repairs etc that way they fit the bill. The way i've got round it in the past is to ring up provider & yellthem the tree is litrully falling down/apart & they need to take the lines down so we can remove the tree before it knocks them down 1 & 1/2 hours later an openreach engineer arrives & takes them down then puts them back up when i'm done and i'm not charged any money. Fk knows what'd happen if they ever realise i'm jst blagging free removals
