Depends really. The typical length of time is between 2 years and 4 years depending on what you read. If you split and stack in an area that will get good prevailing winds then it will dry/season quicker. At a guess I'd say minimum of a year if split stacked and left to dry so you are looking next winter really.

also depends on the size its cut and split into..

if its kept under cover or left outside...

 

if its cut and split into smaller bits then it will season quicker..

if its kept dry but well aired will also dry quicker....:thumbup:

hi i have just cut down some oak trees at home. and i just want to no how long i have to wait before i can use it as firewood ?

im burning some at the mo, felled, logged and split 6 mths ago and kept under cover seems to be burning fine. not as good as seasoned but not smouldering.

It needs to be split i have got some oak rings been in a barn for 3 years i thought i would split them and as the wormer went in water came out.:001_smile:

 

were they left sitting on top of one another for 3 years?
