If you're using aluminium on steel, paint the steel first - primer and topcoats. The corrosion problem is due to electrical contact between the steel and the aluminium so the paint keeps them separate. If using aluminium, I'd check the data sheet for the grade - I would want something that says 5xxx (where the xxx are three other numbers) for the best combination of strength and corrosion resistance for something like this.

 

GRP is probably a better bet though.

I use Grp! Got one truck that's had same Grp for six years! Truck is knakerd but Grp sound!

Loaded with chip & logs everyday! No problems

Dont forget to line thye interior with marine grade ply or after a year of logs lumps and bumps the outside of the box will look like a smoothed hedgehog

That's some great info thank you , will definitely get all the steel painted befor fitting the aluminium. Have ordered the sheets now and at a good price . Getting them from the fad shop my brother works at, 4 2x1m sheets @ 1.5mm comes to £137 and after cutting to fit will only weigh approx 22-25kg
