Suitable hand winch / puller

I'm clearing an old pheasant pen and am getting down to the nitty gritty which are a lot of DED elm trees. Many have fallen already this winter but lots are teetering and it's a tricky place to be. I have quite a few hangers, resting on half dead trees so care is needed. When they fall, the roots are rotten.

What I'm looking for is something to either secure trees in one direction (ie stop them coming back on me) or to pull them over in a way they might not want to go. This is very steep and no vehicle access at all.

I was looking at this.

Any thoughts?

If you want that size winch then the link below on ebay is good. I bought one a few months back and they're very solid. I suspect that the Draper one you list and all the other non tirfor winches are the same chinese manufacturer. Good quality though and pretty cheap

Bought a Habegger winch a while back (swiss-made Tirfor type). £30 on ebay then £120 for a new rope. Best to do your research on the winch you're buying as you can get cable cheaper, but not to the right diameter for specific machines. Agree though, Tirfor or Habegger - excellent winches.

Other alternative that's used round here a lot is the lugall - £295, pulls 700Kg or 1400Kg double purchase. Really portable, easy to setup, with ~6-8m cable. Ideal for what you're doing I reckon.

Yes, I expect the Draper one is Chinese or Indian manufacture but you do find that Draper stuff is a cut above similar products from Silverline and Am-Tech etc. They just have higher standards with the factories I think. But they are similar.

The thing is, we are a Draper dealer so I can get it trade so I'm tempted......
