Hi, can any one tell me if douglas fir can be used for fire wood, i have been offered some standing and need to work out most profitable use for it, i will be greatfull for any ideas.

 

As said before firewoods a last option, pics would be nice , and an idea of volume. If theyre as good as youre describing i know someone in that area that will have them providing theres enough to make collection worthwhile.

Thanks Logger. I was getting £38 a meter for good Douglas sawlogs 10 years ago.

 

If there was enough to justify an 8 wheeler load, I'd come down for them. (provided they were felled properly...)

Theres about ten acres to fell. I can get them to roadside so plenty of access, I'll be using the 660 me thinks. I have to go price up the job and let them know what i'm interested in on tuesday so will post lots of pictures of site. Anyone interested pm me so i dont forget.

with regards firewood.....in reality anything will burn. if you go to some regions...one area in america springs to mind, thats pretty much the main wood availiable hence people think nothing about burning it.

we have become too fussy in this country and people are going to have to accept all manner of wood in the future if the rate of people installing woodburners continues to increase as it has been

We process 90% Sitka Spruce, simply because the area is full of it and there is not much else.

 

The locals think nothing of it and never ask for hard wood. However, it has to be really well seasoned

You do realize they are going to want a price for what you will pay them...

No way a parcel of 10 acres will be going for any less than £15 a tonne standing.
