sorry i mean a 8mm, i understand and can do a locking brummel splice, but i can seem to figure out how to do it with a cover on it??

Take the core out of the cover, do the locking Brummell splice, both ends if you're making a hitch cord, then thread the core back through the cover, I use a length of throw line for the pull through.

Take care with the cover ends though they unravel very easy, tape them or dip them.

Finish by whipping both cover and core together.

Both a locking brummel and a class 2 are ok for 8mm beeline but if you are making an eye to eye hitch cord you won't have the length to do a full 2 fid length bury as per the class 2 splice.

Just do a locking brummel each end and bury a 6inch tail with a nice taper, pull the core back through the cover, whip and then dip the eyes in 'whip and dip' or similar.
