whilst doing our yearly checks of our local park today we came across a dead elm,i was wondering if there would be any money in the main stem,it is nearly poker straight and 40 feet high and 5 feet wide

Sounds very interesting. Could you please give me some indication of how long it has been dead, and where abouts in Scotland you are?

I do like a big tree! That said (with the greatest respect), tree surgeon types tend to round up the diameters up to the nearest foot, but even a four foot stem would be lovely.

its in ayrshire,we reckon that its been dead atleast 3 years as we took a big ash down next to it then and it was showing signs of life then,
