I missed the unit on explosives at college by one year as they stopped it in 1983. Otherwise i would have had some fun with milk churns and stumps. i was quite dissapointed as you can imagine.

look at this.. I'd like to make some black powder sometime. has anyone had a go?

I made some when I was about 13. I found the recipe in a book, bought the ingredients from the chemist shop and ground them together in my bedroom.

 

The test went well. A match dropped into the cup on the window sill followed by a fast burn and a room full of smoke. Good job I hadn't discovered you had to pack it to make it go bang:001_smile:

 

Home-made cannon came later. Great fun firing nuts and bolts through the shed walls. How did we survive childhood?
