Ok, thanks for the reply David, I'm pretty sure it's lichen so I'll go with that

Nope, only on this dead elm! There was a much more mature cap just further along on another elm stem. This is the first year I have actively gone out to look for fungi, so I expect I will see it more often over the coming years.

If you're ever near to my area again, check out Westley Heights and the woodlands that head down the steep hill towards Horndon-on-the-Hill. A total treasure trove of fungi! Such a myriad of different 'plots' - some pine plantation, chestnut coppice, beech and oak maidens, some old pollards, some mostrous wild cherries, the biggest ash in the area, and more.

Looks like a hard perennial Ganoderma species to me.

Probably australe but I wouldn't rule out pfeifferi without having someone do a scratch test on it.

What was the Sparasis fruiting on Mr OakStag?

Thank you very much, the sparasis was fruiting on a pinus sylvestris. We removed several trees surrounding a tennis court being retarmacedand noticed a large amount of the pines in the area were hosting sparasis. some lovely mature pines shame they were in a high risk place. once again thank you
