" Nah...dont worry about it mate......BTW...not much flare on that beech or is it the picture angle perhaps...?

Not so much worried upon failure Tim,

as I'll have it managed before stability becomes an issue.

As the canopy appears to be showing terminal decline, the prognosis is not good, it's the dismantling alongside such a busy road that makes me ponder with distaste.

Ho hum, the life of an Arb...............

The flare is not tapering particularly wide, but the butresses associated to their different roots are well pronounced.

Here's a couple more shots.

Sunday, road closed number I guess...unless you got room for zip line away from the road...but you still need to close the road imo.

Why do you say terminal canopy decline....? Its not the canopy decline that is terminal; more that canopy decline with merip is a "fair" indication that root function is impaired and of stability becoming an ever increasing concern.

Well spotted all the same mate. Not a likely candidate for reduction and see what happens eh! Dont forget those lovely people at Alice Lodge might just be interested enough to come and grind it out for you- all in the name of science you understand.

What can I say? Just seems so much easier to close the road. Ive worked these type of trees; pruning, take downs WHU. Communication nightmares even with radios and traffic controls..you name it. Its just so much easier to close the freaking road and get it done than faff about making life twice as difficult for yourself....Still, if you wanna show off Dean, just fell it down the footpath...cant see a problem man!

It's nothing to do with showing off, it's my job to bring down trees in tight areas, we do mainly domestic in much tighter spots than that, IMO the drop zone there is like a football field :001_smile:

Should read "As the canopy appears to be showing classic symptoms of a Tree in terminal decline, the prognosis is not good......"

May give Brian Greig a call, would be a good stump for him, good nod Tim.

Road closure ??

There's loads of room there to bring it down, just cordon off the parking bays, close the footpath and rig it down.

If you feel non of your southern crews can deal with it then I might be able to put a northern crew together that can, for a fee of course

Agree Dean,

will be section dismantled with trunk fell back into woods.

Im afraid our sensitive Southern Hampstonians would balk at your coarse Northern brogue and derring do attitude, so I'll guess it will be inhouse as par the course :001_tongue:
