Above that fungi it looks like it has a split running up the trunk.

spot on sean, ive seen flamulina and chondrostereum purpureum in close proximity before, on chestnut, was it a chestnut stump in this shot out of curiosity?

sure am.....unfortunately not in galicia its abundance of ancient chestnut pollards.......itchin to get back there......ive marked the monday 3rd on calendar.
